95-10: Tower Demolition safety Techniques For The 90's

In 1987, a comprehensive reliability study was made to ascertain the ability of the present 42-year-old recirculating water system to meet the anticipated load demand through the year 2010. The study determined that the deterioration of the cooling tower over the years necessitated replacement of the structures from the ground up. This project posed many hazards related to worker safety. This paper will deal with the safety techniques used during the project. Portions of the paper will deal with Personal Protection Equipment, fall protection, and lifting and rigging methods used during the demolition of the cooling tower.
