94-10: Pitting Corrosion of Cooling Water Systems

Operation of cooling water systems requires that availability of system components be optimized. Pitting corrosion of pumps, valves, heat exchangers, piping, etc. impacts this availability. Pitting due to crevices, microbiological activity, deposit is, materials selection, system operation and other variables is discussed. Prevention and control guidelines for pitting corrosion in cooling water systems based upon real system experience are presented.
