78-03: Examination of the Sensitivity of Spray Cooling to Wind Speed and
Couldn't load pickup availability
Spray cooling systems have been employed at multiple power plant sites
for condenser cooling as well as for ultimate heat sinks. Unlike
cooling towers, the air/water interaction in a spray system is typically uncontrolled and strongly a function of ambient wind speed. Although an alternative method of cooling, very few spray systems are presently in use. Therefore, little data are available which examine their sensitivity to wind speed and direction. This paper treats field data acquired
on both individual spray module and a specific arrangement of modules using simplified analytical techniques. Testing methodologies are also discussed for both individual spray modules and spray systems.
