73-08: New Concepts in Alkaline Cooling Water Treatments

Chromate-based corrosion inhibitors, incorporating chromate synergized with phosphates, zinc, molybdate and other ions, have for many years dominated the cooling water treatment field. However, other corrosion inhibitors have always been important, particularly in systems which cannot use chromate satisfactorily. All of these products depend upon the use of acid to lower the pH and alkalinity in the recirculating cooling water and avoid the formation of calcium carbonate scale.
