No matter how well a cooling tower is built, if it does not cool the water to the specified conditions, then increased operating costs for the unit involved are incurred from the very beginning. It is of particular importance, as the size and cost of these units continue to increase such as in the case of the natural draft towers, that stringent field performance testing be maintained to assure guaranteed performance. Therefore, proper testing procedure with proper instruments, conducted by qualified personnel, is of essential importance in maintaining and improving the cooling tower industry as we proceed into the 70's, a period of greatly increase concern with both air and water pollution.
