70-06: Maintaining Clean Water Systems With Chemical Additives

Discussion of major types of foulants in cooling water systems and the means of preventing the associated deposit problems. The various types of antifoulants of the flocculant, dispersant and chelant variety are discussed in detail along with their effect on fouling materials. Laboratory equipment is presented which enables the study of simulated fouling conditions and the screening of various antifoulants. Case histories are cited indicating the problems encountered, the treatment employed and the results obtained.
