69-07: Application of AC Motors to Cooling Towers

The application of AC squirrel cage motors to cooling towers requires special consideration to problems of high humidity, loads that vary with ambient temperature, installations at many different altitudes and power supplies with many different voltages. Torque and inertia acceleration capability are also of major concern. With the motor industry presently completing its transition to NEMA T frames, the timing is right to review the capability of these new motors in cooling tower applications.
