68-16: New, Non-Chromate Synthetic-Organic Corrosion Inhibitor for Cooling

In discussions involving corrosion inhibitors for cooling water systems, it is helpful to summarize briefly the nature and mechanics of corrosion. 
When a metal, particularly iron or steel, is placed in contact with water or a solution containing electrolytes. it has an inherent tendency to go into the solution in 
the form of electrically charged particles (metallic ions). Since the solution must remain electrically neutral, these positive charged ions can enter the solution only if an equivalent number of positive charged ions of some other elememt is displaced.
