67-01: The Relationship of Cooling Tower Operation to Pollution Control

The dissipation of heat in industrial cooling systems has long been a source of pollution. The use of cooling towers is a distinct help in pollution abatement, but these devices are not an unmixed blessing. Although the operation of cooling towers has not changed markedly in the last few years, there has been an increasing outcry against all forms of industrial pollution. Cooling towers have drawn their share of the fire. It would be interesting to determine why, all of a sudden, there is so much fuss.
