62-05: Sizing Cooling Towers to Optimize Plant Performance

Because of the direct impact that a cooling tower has on the system in which it is to be used, there is a great need to specify a cooling tower to optimize the system. Essentially, the question is, "How Big?" A larger cooling tower will supply colder water to the system but will also use more power (both in pumping and in the fans), cost more, use more real estate and cost more to install (in foundation, wiring, switchgear, controls, etc.).
