Concrete can literally be produced from local materials anywhere on the planet and as such is the most used construction product. Essentially, concrete is an inorganic substance, heterogeneous made primarily of sand, cement, gravel & water with minor amounts of admixtures (both mineral & chemical). Due to its inherent mineral nature, it provides excellent fire resistance & endurance being a man made "artificial rock". Having attributes that can be traced back over millennia, concrete was initially valued for its excellent compressive strength (f'c) making early concrete building designers look at the hardened product like that of quarried stone yet more flexible in placement of complicated shapes/designs.
