TP22-09: Temporary Cold Water Basin

With outage and shutdown intervals extending to 5-8 years, routine cooling tower maintenance, such as basin cleaning, below water structure replacements and concrete basin inspections, are being pushed beyond OEM-recommended frequencies. We have developed a proven system that allows a cooling tower to remain in operation with the basin drained so the above maintenance can be completed. This paper will detail the system including a review of two recent cases studies at a large refinery in terms of reduced outage costs, increased production and overall plant safety.
