TP20-26: Planning to Fail: Comprehensive Water Treatment Specifications are a Must!
This publication contains an overview and analysis of recurring issues and central themes involving corrosion-based system failures wherein comprehensive water treatment specifications were lacking. The facts of each case must be assessed for variables including the applicable law of the forum state, the allegations as framed, available evidence and other considerations. This document is not a substitute for competent counsel.
This publication addresses corrosion related issues and does not address waterborne pathogens, disease control, disease prevention or Legionella bacteria. Scientific evidence is either lacking or inconclusive in certain aspects of Legionella control. The safe level for Legionella bacteria is unknown and the scientific consensus is that complete prevention of Legionella bacteria is neither realistic nor practical. ASHRAE Standard 188-2015 is under continuous maintenance.
