A Robust Easy Applied Non-Phosphorus and Non-Zinc Based Corrosion/Scale Control Program for Cooling Systems

Environmental regulations along with the needs to alleviate the phosphate-based scales drive the need for a Non-Phosphorus and Non-Zinc (Non-P & Non-Zn) treatment programs for carbon steel corrosion control and scale control in cooling system. However, with the narrow application window, potentially deteriorated performance, and likely increased treatment cost, customers are reluctant to adopt many Non-P treatment programs. A newly developed, Non-P & Non-Zn program is composed of both organic and inorganic mixture components. This program provides superior anodic and cathodic corrosion protection to carbon steel. Laboratory Pilot Cooling Tower (PCT) test results will be presented and fully discussed. The robust performance of corrosion control is demonstrated in both soft water and high calcium/alkalinity water matrices. Increased product dosages have been found to be effective when transitioning from PO4 based programs in the passivation of new carbon steel surface.
