22-14: Protecting Stagnant Cooling Water System from Water Related Deterioration

New building open recirculating cooling water systems, as well as cold and hot water supply systems, closed cooling and heating systems, and fire suppression piping and equipment are expected to undergo very little corrosion during building construction. It is expected to be in like-new condition and functioning as designed when the project is turned over to the property owner and/or operator. Over the last 25 to 30 years this expectation is increasingly not being achieved. There has been a large and increasing number of cases where severe water system piping, and equipment corrosion damage has resulted in major inconvenience and expense to tenants as well as to project owners.
